SMS Opt-In & Consent Workflow
Last updated: July 23, 2026
This page documents how recipients consent to receive text messages through the FieldLane platform. Full program terms:SMS Terms ·Privacy Policy.
How customers opt in
FieldLane sends automated, service-related text messages on behalf of trade service businesses (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) to those businesses' own customers. A customer opts in verballywhen they book or receive service and provide their mobile number — over the phone or in person — and give express consent to the business to receive appointment-related texts. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any service. The business records the customer's spoken consent before any message is sent.
Verbal consent disclosure
When booking by phone or on-site, the business reads the following disclosure and obtains the customer's explicit "yes" before enrolling them:
Example, as spoken:
The disclosure includes
- A clear description of the service and the message content
- Message frequency (approximately 4–10 messages per appointment)
- The standard "message and data rates may apply" disclaimer
- Instructions for getting help (reply HELP)
- Instructions for opting out (reply STOP)
- Links to the SMS Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- A clear request for explicit consent ("yes" or "no")
- Confirmation that an enrollment text will follow
First message after consent
Immediately after enrollment, the customer receives a booking confirmation identifying the business by name, for example:
